This is the first time I’m reading anything by Teralyn Mitchell. The title of this book piqued my interest because I wanted to find out what the other complications to love were in this story.
So let’s dive into the storyline. Sophia has always wanted to be noticed by Jax, her big brother’s (Zane) best friend for as long as she can remember. But Jax was off limits and Zane wouldn’t have him mess around with his little sister. Anyway, both Jax and Zane were chasing Wren (Sophia’s friend) until Wren decided to pick Zane and marry him. Now in the midst of planning the wedding, Sophia confesses her feelings about Jax to Wren. As luck would have it, Jax overhears the conversation and then decides to pursue Sophia.
Sophia is enjoying this new found attention but in the back of her mind she kept wondering whether Jax was with her to get over Wren. Yes, this was complicated. But surprisingly, Jax who has never had a serious relationship before was now all into Sophia until she ended things abruptly with him after Zane and Wren got married. Jax was left having to face Zane who wasn’t pleased his best friend hid the relationship from him.
Overall, it was a quick and fun read that left me wanting more. I liked the author’s style of writing capturing the essence of twenty-something and thirty-something relationships. Although, I had to keep track of many characters and some of the information was repetitive, she weaved a good story about love and the importance of communication between lovers. In the end, love prevailed and Sophia got her man.
Some of my favorite lines:
“I thought this was just a fling, Jax,” Sophia said in a quiet voice. “I thought you needed a distraction. Your interest and attraction seemed to come out of nowhere, and the timing—a month before Wren and Zane’s wedding—made me question your intentions. I had no reason to believe what we had would be any different. And then your words the night before the wedding, confirmed that I’d been right all along.”
