Deliah Lawrence: What inspired you to write your book?
Laura Hurubaru: Last year I was looking for ways to get my message out more. And I’d almost landed a deal to be featured in a new book called, She Rises for Tomorrow - Female Entrepreneurs Who Brought Ideas to Life and Inspire the World. Only we couldn't go past the agreement.
In order to be featured, I had to give them exclusive rights over my chapter. And that meant I could not publish/share any part of it on other media channels even though it was my story!
SOOOO... I said, "No Way!! This is my story... I am going to publish my own
book!!!!"
And now it’s a fact! NOW, I’m a self-published author!
DL: How do you handle writer’s block?
LH: I tell myself: “Just one sentence. Add just one more sentence.” Usually, I end up writing a chapter. That and I also had a mentor to help me throughout the process of writing my own book.
DL: What were some of the challenges when writing this
book?
LH: In the book I am describing a bit about my journey and past experiences. Reliving the trauma from the past made it difficult for me to write. I had to unearth old beliefs around self-worth and putting myself and my story out there. And it was not easy nor pleasant.
I also had to deal with impostor syndrome. I never wrote a book before so who am I to believe I am any good at it. And if the book is going to be no good then why am I even doing it. So, I had to deal with a lot of negative self-talk and self-criticism.
DL: Is there any particular author or book that
influenced you in any way either growing up or as an adult?
LH: Sure. Too many to count! I will list one, the one that I can remember setting me up to create a better life for myself: The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari by Robin Sharma.
DL: What was the best writing advice you’ve ever been
given?
LH: It’s your story! There is no right or wrong! Your story will help the people who will resonate with it.
DL: If you could choose a super power, what would it
be and why?
LH: Turn everything to life. I believe we could all be a lot more wealthy and happier if we can heal our planet and have her ground fertile everywhere so people can have at least the basic needs covered.
DL: What are the keys to success in marketing your
book?
LH: The same as with everything else: talking about it, sharing its message and the why behind it, having other people read it and review it, and working with people such as yourself.
DL: Would you like to share an excerpt from Life: The Furnace Of Your Soul - The Journey Back To Love?
LH: Sure, here you go:
“The moment of surrender is not when life is
over, it’s when it begins.” ~ Marianne Williamson
Asking for guidance, receiving it from a place of faith and taking inspired action on that nudge sounds a lot easier said than done. As humans with active minds, it requires a degree of surrendering to whatever might come your way.
Every time you need to surrender you will feel like you are dying, literally. Your whole stomach will turn upside down and you’ll feel like you’re about to have a panic attack. You will feel like you’re being stretched from all corners of your being. It’s unmistakable … you won’t be able to escape it. It’s like the calm before the storm, only the other way around. In the case of the storm, you know that everything being calm alerts you to seek shelter.
DL: What new projects are you currently working on?
LH: It’s not a book. It’s launching my ‘self-study’ course: “From Scratch to Cash FAST”. I’ve put everything I am doing with my 1x1 clients into an online course. So, I am working on getting this one out of the door pretty soon.
