I was drawn in by the title as well as the cover of this novel by Delaney Diamond and was curious how this love story would unfold. So, let’s meet Simone Brooks, a wealthy socialite who’s smitten by the handsome, Cameron Bennett, an owner of Club Masquerade, one of the hottest clubs in Atlanta. Sparks fly but there’s the issue of whether he’s good enough for her.
What I really enjoyed
about this novel was that love prevailed but not without a few hiccups and soul
searching. Simone has a very philanthropic heart ever since she was a child
growing up in a very wealthy family. Unfortunately, she was never lucky in love
having recently broken up with her boyfriend and adjusting to moving from
Seattle to Atlanta. The attraction between her and Cameron was instantaneous.
She had a certain flair about her and spent lavishly on anything she wanted. He
was a hard worker who was careful with his money, loved the outdoors, cooking
and being with his siblings.
Their worlds were different and Sylvie Johnson, Simone’s mother made it known to Cameron when she showed up at his home unannounced knowing her daughter was out of town. At this point, Cameron began to doubt whether the relationship would work because he was not wealthy and felt unworthy. But not being with Simone would hurt him too much to throw away his love for her.
Overall, it was a quick and fun read! I enjoyed the dialogue and the descriptions which placed you right in the action in and out of the bedroom. I was glad that Simone got some clarity after talking to her father about his divorce from her mother and why her mother acted the way she did. But in the end love conquered all. And yes, I would read something by Delaney Diamond again.
Some of my favorite lines:
Simone took a deep breath. “My mother, Ella, and I think that maybe we’re cursed or something, and the only way to be truly happy is to find a man who is just as wealthy as we are. My father was not wealthy, and he left my mother. My brother-in-law was not wealthy, and he left my sister. When you reacted so negatively about the clothes I bought, an alarm went off in my head. I wanted to buy you the furniture because you’re always so good to me, and I wanted to do something for you—to show you how much I love and appreciate you. But I hesitated, wondering how you’d react. Then, I did it. I didn’t realize it at the time, but it was a test, and you reacted the way that I’d feared.”
