This afternoon, I checked out the play, "Wild with Happy," written by playwright, Colman Domingo and directed by Jeremy B. Cohen at Center Stage. This play was about a son and his mother and how death affected him when she died. Domingo describes the play as "a celebratory satire about love, loss, and faith." He takes you on a journey where the son experiences a range of emotions from losing faith to finding it agin in the most magical place, Disneyland. This was the last place that he and his mother went and she simply adored it so it was quite fitting that she spread her wings in that location.
Also, what I found interesting was the satirical take on fairy tales. I simply loved how one of the characters (Mo) dissected some of the popular fairy tales like Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and Goldilocks and the Three Little Bears - I was laughing out so loud!
Overall, the cast was fantastic and the play was uproariously funny! A definite must see! After the play, I was tickled that in the lobby I had a chance to meet 3 out of the 4 cast members: Stephanie Berry (Adelaide/Aunt Glo), Chivas Michael (Mo/Elder Bovane) and James Ijames (Terry/Church Nurse) - they were so cool and gracious! Although, I sure wished that I could have met Forrest McClendon (Gil)...but 3 out of 4 ain't bad!
